What Makes You Angry?

I will be speaking at Harvest in Riverside this coming Sunday.
Among other things, I will be talking about anger.

So let me ask you, what makes you angry? What really ticks you off? Have you ever exploded in anger, and if so,why?

Things that bother me

I can tell you that when I’m hungry, I can get a little angry. There are a lot of other things that can irritate me, as well.

Why do people who are in the No. 1 spot at a stoplight not go when it turns green? They’re probably texting.

Why do people give their cellphones the loudest ringtone, and then let them ring five times before answering very loudly?

Why do people have to send text messages when they are having a conversation with you?

Jesus got angry

Most of these are minor things. There are times, though, when anger is not wrong at all, but actually quite right.

Did you know that Jesus Himself displayed anger? It happened on Palm Sunday.

We often think of the palm branches laid out before him as the adoring throngs cried out, “Hosanna to the son of David,” and so we should. But right after that, Jesus wept and then He displayed righteous indignation.

Why? What angers and saddens God? We will find out tonight.

Oh, and one other thing. Could you not text when we are talking?

Hey Greg have you ever listen to sermons by Francis Schacffer. I just got through listening to him. 1982 sermon by Francis Schaeffer on Worldview like the study you are giving. Why would one replace Gods view for a meaningless one as we are seeing today. God gives value meaning and life. Your right we have to be careful to shake at our fits at God Judging God by circumstances instead of who He is.
    God bless

    What makes me angry?
    1. I planned to do something with someone, then the person stands me up or changes his/her mind without letting me know, and acts like nothing wrong happened when he/she sees me again.
    2. People complaining about the same issue over and over to me, while I already gave him/her the solution.
    3. People blaming or criticizing me for something and then doing the same thing right away.

I just feel so blessed that my anger is aways short, though. Thank you Lord!

The things that make me angry are people who do not stop to take other people or their little children into consideration. Speeding in communities where people co-habitat i.e. apartment complexes or condos. People who do not take responsibility for their animals. Abandon them in dog parks, tie them up unfed, no water, and leave puppies kittens, the sickly, injured in trash dumpsters. Oh yes, last but not least. People who are so self- absorbed they have no compassion and they don’t know what kindnesses are! And I get reallllllly angry when there is any kind of abusive behaviors that go on uncorrected or unacknowledged. These are just among my top five. The disrespect for our Lord and other spiritual aspects to life is a whole other arena. We are to be understanding and forgiving to these natural minded people because they don’t know any better…

    Hi Pastor Greg
I appreciate the message and the truth you bring to the pulpit every week, You know what we are all going through. You’ve walked in our shoes and been there. I’m currently unemployed, but the Lord has been great to me and my Family. I also dealing with Health, Car problems as well but the Lord has been protective of me and my family. My focus is to keep my sight on Him. Yes little things pop up to try to anger me, and then I remember to give it all to our Lord Jesus Christ for He is always in Control of it all.
Thank you for your Integrity and keeping true to God’s Word.

My Family and I will always keep you and your family in are prayers. BOb

  6. Rick says:

    What makes me angry?
People who deny God’s existance despite all the evidence
Christians who don’t walk in Love and Compassion
    Christians who are fault finders
Spilling spaghetti sauce on my white shirt.

  7. Al Duran says:

The size of the thing that angers a man is comparable or equal to the size of the man.

Stubbing your toe is nothing, but making Gods house a den of thieves is big and justifies.

It is ok to be angry if God would be angry at the same thing.

Anger is not an excuse for someone to act foolish, God shows great patience with us on a daily basis, we need to love others like Jesus loves us with great patience. Only then can God truly do his greatest work within us.

I feel the same as you. Cell phones and text messages from the car are infuriating! I am sorry they were ever invented. Also, people who e-mail instead of talk on the phone person to person. Also, NOT BEING HIRED AFTER ALL THIS TIME!

However, being saved January 2, 2008 made up for a lot of this. You have been such a huge part of my spiritual growth. I have ordered more of your Cd’s and listened to each one two and three times over. I never knew God could be this good.

Thank you so much for teaching me so much. You are a very special person.

Prayers for you and your family. Karen

    Hi Pastor Greg
I have to say I laughed when I read what things make you angry. Most of those things make me angry as well. That’s why I appreciate you so much, because you’re down to earth. Like one of us. A lot of pastor seem above humane and you’re not like that. I really appreciate that about you. Thanks Pastor Greg, for being you 🙂

  10. Silvia says:

What makes me angry, is when people use God’s name in vain, especially when they use so carelessly.
