New York wrap-up

Hey everyone,

The New York Harvest is complete. Here’s the wrap-up that we just posted on the Crusade Connection blog:

One of the slogans we’ve picked up on this year for the New York Harvest has been “God in the Garden.” It’s a reference to Billy Graham’s legendary crusade meetings at Madison Square Garden in 1957.

Well, God truly was in the Garden on Sunday night as Harvest Crusades closed out its 2008 schedule with a one-night event at “The World’s Most Famous Arena.”

A crowd of 12,500 people from around New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere packed into Madison Square Garden to hear the gospel proclaimed. Once there, they enjoyed music from the Katinas, a 300-member interdenominational choir, Relient K, and MercyMe.

Pastor Greg spoke on “How to Change for Good,” sharing about his adoptive father Oscar and his son Christopher, both now in heaven.

The response during the gospel invitation was overwhelming as we had more responders than available counselors. In all, there were an estimated 1,380 people who came forward and prayed with Pastor Greg to receive Christ or to make a recommitment.

What a blessing from God to close out a busy year of Harvest Crusades events!

I was at MSG on Sunday. It was the first time I was in an arena with that many Christians. It was, without a doubt, a spiritual awakening for many. I cried when you gave the altar call. I cried with happiness knowing that so many people will now know Christ as their Savior. May you be richly blessed. I know I am because I have Jesus! Amen.
Thank you and many blessings to you and your family.

Hey Pastor Greg Laurie, I went to Harvest 2008 in Madision Square Garden. Im going to be honest, I was actually begged by my mom to go there, so I gave it shot. My family went through a tragedy in December 23,2007 where we lost a loved one, someone very dear and close to me. After that happened, I grew with hatred and just couldn’t function, I was losing control of myself. I was a non-believer after that, I gave up hope & faith. But somehow, being at Madison Square Garden that night, and hearing about how you’ve dealt with the situation of your son really got to me. I’m not gonna lie, I started to cry hearing your words about him, and especially once you showed the video. It was so amazing to me how you have been able to keep yourself so strong through this. While you were speaking, I really felt that the person I lost in my life was right there next to me the whole time. The way you spoke about the whole situation was just amazing to me and it really touched my heart and most of all made me start believing again. I just want to say thank you, thank you for coming to NYC, and finally I was able to regain my belief back, its getting stronger now little by little, but I have to say your words have really meant alot to me. Thank You Very Much!

Pastor Greg…My husband and I made the trip to NY with a group from Harvest. We counseled 8 new & recommitted believers. My husband had 2 young enlisted military men (one on crutches) that came forward late to make a commitment to Christ. He is also an Army veteran. It was definitely God who made it possible for him to encourage these 2 men to support each other as new christians and to tell them how proud we are of their service to our country. I have to say that this crusade was one of the most spirit filled that I have attended and I have attended many. God answered the prayers of many. Thank you Pastor Greg for preaching the gospel throughout this difficult year. You have finished 2008 well!
    In his name…Denise

Thank you Pastor Greg for faithfully preaching the truth of the gospel. No weapon formed against you or your family shall prosper because you are all more than conquerors through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:37). I am so thankful for you, I want to share how God has used you to bring me and my family to Christ. My parents divorced when I was five (I am now 22) and none of us were Christians, we were all pretty broken and lost. Soon after the divorce, my dad began attending AA meetings to get clean and sober from substance abuse. He heard the good news of Jesus some time in the early 90’s because his aunt had brought him to your church. I remember seeing my dad on his knees asking God to forgive him. I remember listening to you on the radio when I was very young. I only saw my dad a couple times a month, but whenever I was with him, he read the Bible with me and taught me about Jesus. I gave my life to the Lord at the age of nine. My dad and I began to pray for my mom. My dad and I prayed for God to get a hold of her for years, and then in 2004, she began to go to your church and she gave her life to Jesus! My mom and I now attend your church together. My dad remarried a while back and is now a missionary in Mexico.
God’s purposes are being multiplied through you and your family!
I am faithfully praying for you and your family, that the peace of Christ would rule in your hearts and that God’s exceedingly great and precious promises would continually flood your thoughts.

Just wanted to Praise God a bit! I sent out a text to friends in NY to remind them of the Harvest, to my amazement one friend had not known about it, but immediately bought a ticket for her and her daughter. She sent me a text after the crusade that her daughter was one of those that made the angels rejoice that night – she gave her life to the Lord! Thanks Greg for all you do – and to the entire Harvest team.

Thank you Pastor Greg Laurie and all the people that made this phenominal event possible. I was oh so filled with the Holy Spirit. My son surprised me with tickes to your event. Please pray for him as he is gay. I was praying he would come to re-dedicate himself, but he didn’t. Please pray for him. I pray that this ministry coninues to bring God’s children to him.

Thank you for coming to the New York. I tried to make it to the Philly Harvest two weeks ago, but was unable to make it. When I found out that you were coming to New York, I got my ticket and Nothing was going to keep me from hearing the Gospel. Thank you for coming it has changed my life. May you, your family, and the rest other your Harvest crew be blessed. I will be there when you come back.

    Dear Pastor Greg,

The Crusade was a tremendous blessing. I praise God for His beautiful faithfulness to you and your family! My prayers have been with you guys.

I praise the Lord that the life that your son Christopher lived continues to bear fruit for God’s kingdom! Thanks Pastor Greg for saying “yes” to the call of Jesus many years ago! I am inspired to live a life of total abandonment for the Lord all my days. His ways are so much higher!

    To God be the glory!

I entered MSG as a woman full of doubts, not trusting, not allowing God to be the controller of my life. I was blessed last night! The tears just kept rolling down. It was a feeling of letting “me” go and letting God take over.

It was the first time I was hearing you. I loved you and felt so blessed to have heard your empowering message.

I re-dedicated myself to Christ last night. It was long overdue

    Thank you so much!

  16. Stan says:

Pastor Greg, you brought the garden down. Amen!! I sat in tears as you spoke about your son, but all honor and glory to God. You said it, you will see him again. I wanted at that point to give you a hug and a cry with you. Thank you for coming to NY. We need more crusades for Christ. Again, thank you brother!!

  17. Richard says:

Pastor Greg, I just got home — refreshed and renewed– from a wonderful and blessed evening with God and with you at Madison Square Garden. I brought three friends over, whom have never heard of your ministry before, and I must say, each of them came away from the event simply amazed by how much God has blessed your preaching and message. The New Believer’s New Testament and New Believer’s Bible are incredible resources that my friends took several copies of for their discipleship groups to bless and increase their spiritual walks. One of them is even subscribing to your daily devotion emails, too!

Tonight we came to be refreshed, but we took home so much more — simply watching so many people make decisions for Christ is incredible! Now I know that great things will be done in this City, because your ministry impacted our communities in a surpassing and eternal way. You now have more people praying for you, your family and ministry, and I hope that you will continue to bless others and stay strong, even as you continue to include Christopher’s story as a testimony of a life changed.

    God bless you, Pastor Greg!

Isn’t it amazing how God does the most amazing things through broken vessels? Pastor Greg, I can’t imagine the sorrow you must feel every moment of every day in missing your son, yet you are continuously being used by God to bring many into the Kingdom.

Thank you for your faithfulness in serving Jesus!
